New podcast ‘Gaza and Vision’ now online.

As the latest conflict in Gaza fades from the headlines, we focus on the issue of what lies ahead when the guns fall silent and the reporters go home: is there still a real vision for a peace beyond the destruction?

In this podcast hosted by Peter Brill, our team of Muslim and Jewish presenters are joined by contributors from around the world. They include: Ben Keene, CEJI Director Robin Sclafani, Len and Elias from the Jewish-Palestinian Living Room Dialogues initiative in the USA, and Gershon Gan, former Israeli ambassador to Zimbabwe.

The programme also includes a deeply moving discussion between Salaam Shalom presenters and friends Javed and Tal , while presenter Danyel provides an eyewitness account of the political activism caused by the Gaza conflict. It closes with a special look at Gaza by the “Kickin’ It Back” team.

We also feature the music of Yusuf Islam, David Broza and Said Murad, Hdag Nagash and other artists promoting the message of peace.

RADIO SALAAM SHALOM ENTERS THIRD YEAR

Radio Salaam Shalom celebrates its second anniversary this week. To mark the occasion, our Chairman Peter Brill wrote this letter to our pioneering Bristol-based team of Muslim and Jewish volunteer broadcasters.

” Salaam Shalom has reached its Second Anniversary. We are a very different organisation from the one that went live on 1st February 2007 and in many ways, as we head into our third year, our challenges are greater than ever. But the fact is we have survived. Our audience figures are higher than they have ever been, we have strengthened our bank account with new funding and we have new volunteers and Board members looking to take Salaam Shalom forward. We have also reached new audiences around the world as well as here in the UK. All of this is due to our volunteers and especially to Kyle Hannan, our Station Manager, whose incredible dedication and hard work has kept Salaam Shalom in existence.

” I do recognise that this anniversary is a bittersweet celebration and that all of us have had to search deep within our hearts and souls to summon the strength to maintain dialogue: a personal conflict that is likely to continue for some time.

” These last two months have been particularly hard for everyone and I cannot underestimate the contribution of every volunteer – presenters and Board members alike – in trying to keep the values of Salaam Shalom alive, despite the human suffering we have witnessed recently.  Few, if anyone, could fail to be emotionally affected by the images we have seen and the conversations we had with friends, acquaintances, community leaders and contacts in the UK, Gaza and Israel.

” Regardless of our faith or political beliefs, human suffering touches us all and benefits no-one.

” So as Salaam Shalom faces the challenges of another year, I can only offer my deepest thanks, and those of the Board, as well as muted congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to keep the vision alive.

“Salaam Shalom!”
