Exciting. Refreshing. GOOD!
With these words Shabana started to describe her radio experience after she spent seven days in the south of Spain near the coastal of city of Algodonales. She had returned recently after having participated in training to improve her radio skills in a program run by Grundtvig.
Part of the European Commission’s new Lifelong Learning Programme, the Grundtvig Programme offers grants for a wide range of activities in the basic skills, foreign languages, parental education, arts and culture. All projects involve working with European partners and offer a great learning and personal development experience for staff and trainees.
Shaban was among a group of twenty-two participants from many countries such as Germany and Italy and ten participants from the UK. She is happy that she was able to participate in this programme and to be taught new things by her trainers Caroline and Traudel.
I learnt how to use the ‘Audacity’ programmes and record things, plus communication and editing
she said.
Shabana considered part of her opportunity was to raise her own awareness through meeting local people.
I met so many people. We worked together and I learnt about the culture and religion and life. It made me understand people
she added
Her colleagues at Salaam Shalom radio station might see her as very fortunate because Shabana was the only one of three Radio Salaam Shalom applicants to be awarded funding for the programme.
She had applied very early on and they wanted just one person from each organisation
said colleague Farhan.
Shabana is a volunteer presenter on ‘The Shabs n G show’, which you can hear every Thursday from 6PM – 8PM on Radio Salaam Shalom. This weekly show has been on-air since the station began broadcasting in February 2007.
Shabana aspires to work as a TV presenter in the future.
