JULY 2008: The Director-General of the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) recently visited the Radio Salaam Shalom studios in Bristol.
Susan Schofield was accompanied by the Assistant Director for Stronger Communities at Government Office South West (GOSW), David Duggan, and by Bristol City Council Community Cohesion manager Ian Quaife.
The Government team watched a short video screening featuring our first-ever broadcasts before relaxing in the Green Room for the opportunity to talk directly to some of Radio Salaam Shalom’s volunteer presenters and share some local food.
Introducing the project, Salaam Shalom Vice-chairman Farooq Siddique reminded the visitors of the considerable attention that the pioneering internet broadcaster has received from world media. The group then joined Station Manager Kyle Hannan for a short tour of the improved studio complex in Easton, Bristol, and shared a discussion about some exciting ideas for the project’s future developments.
